Jaydev Unadkat made headlines last month with his comeback to the Indian Test side after a gap of 12 years. He was featured in a Test match against Bangladesh. Once again, Unadkat did something that’s never happened in Ranji Trophy history. Captaining Saurashtra, Unadkat picked up his first-ever hat trick on Tuesday (December 3), the first in the history of the Ranji Trophy.

He missed Saurashtra’s first two matches because he was included in the Test side. When he returned to domestic cricket, he astonished the cricket fraternity with this 88-year-old Ranji Trophy first. Previously, Karnataka’s Vinay Kumar held the record for the quickest Ranji Trophy hat-trick.

Unadkat first dismissed in-form Dehli batter, Dhruv Shorey, in the third ball of the first over. His other victims were Delhi captain Yash Dhull and Vaibhav Rawal who were sent packing for golden ducks.

Unadkat, however, wasn’t satisfied with just three scalps as he went on to shatter a few more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul. This was his 21st five-wicket haul off 97 first-class matches. Debutant Lakshay Thareja (1) and Jonty Sidhu (4) were his other scalps.

It’s worth to be noted that several of Delhi’s regular faces have sustained injuries. So those who replaced them failed to face Unadkat. Delhi was reduced to 10/7 owing to Unadkat’s havoc, and a total of six batters departed for duck (four of them were Unadkat’s victims). He started with a hat-trick but ended it with a eight-wicket haul in his outregeous spell.

Meanwhile, Delhi were all out for 133 runs. Hritik Shokeen and Shivank Vashisht stitched a stand despite Unadkat’s spell.
