Rohit Sharma-led India took the field against West Indies in the first ODI on Thursday (27 July) and Sanju Samson missed out yet again. The wicketkeeper batter was benched with Ishan Kishan getting a preference over Samson. Nevertheless, Suryakumar Yadav gave Sanju Samson’s fans something to cheer about as the batter wore the wicketkeeper’s jersey. 

As Yadav fielded during the first ODI, he was spotted wearing the No.9 jersey with Samson’s name imprinted on it. While it is not known if Surya deliberately wore Samson’s jersey or if it was due to some other reason, fans were quick to react to the viral images.

Most of them saw the funny side of it while a few fans took a dig at the Indian team management for benching Samson. Check out the reactions.

Fans call out Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for ignoring Sanju Samson

While this image of Suryakumar waring Sanju Samson’s attracted some funny reactions, the wicketkeeper’s exclusion did not sit well with the netizens. Indian fans were not happy to see a player with better numbers getting ignored. A section of fans accused Indian team management and Rohit Sharma of favoritism. 

It is worth mentioning that Sanju Samson has better numbers in ODIs than both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. While Suryakumar and Kishan average 24.06 and 42.50 respectively, Samson averages a whopping 66 in 11 ODIs.
