Dinesh Karthik had made his India debut 18-years-ago and it was in 2022 that he was made the team captain. He led his first match as a captain in a warm-up match against Derbyshire on Friday, July 1. He was given the reins of captaincy after team management decided to rest Hardik Pandya.

Dinesh Karthik was in the air after making his captaincy debut. After winning the warm-up match, he took to social media the next day and shared a heartfelt message on Twitter expressing his gratitude. He wrote:

“Have been around for many years but this was the first time I led the team in blue. Even though it was a warm-up game, it felt special and a great honour. Big thanks to all who have always supported and for the wishes. Proud of being a part of this team.”

However, this isn’t for the first time Dinesh Karthik has led a team. He captained his state team, Tamil Nadu, and also led IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for more than two years.

Indian players comfortably chased the target of 151 with Sanju Samson’s knock of 38 runs and Deepak Hooda’s knock of 59 runs off 37. Suryakumar Yadav finished the innings with his unbeaten 36 runs off 22 balls. India will then lock-horns in a warm-up game with Northamptonshire with Dinesh Karthik leading the team.

Another India’s team is playing the rescheduled fifth Test match against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The tons of Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and a quick cameo from captain Jasprit Bumrah‘s 31 runs off 19 balls lifted India’s innings when James Anderson had shattered the top order and India were staggering at 98/5. But the blistering knocks from these three players helped India post a strong total of 416.
