“Harder to play all three formats,” Glenn McGrath wants Jasprit Bumrah to have an OFF-SEASON to pull back strength amid injury woes
It's his bowling action that throws a lot more pressure on his body, and this, coupled with the grueling international schedule, concerned McGrath about the future of the 29-year-old.

Australia legend Glenn McGrath, who was once one of the most feared bowlers during his time, is a fan of Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Like McGrath’s injury woes throughout his career, Bumrah has been struggling a great deal. It’s his bowling action that throws a lot more pressure on his body, and this, coupled with the grueling international schedule, concerned McGrath about the future of the 29-year-old.
There’s no doubt that the international cricketing calendar has become crammed up. Almost every day some cricket tournaments are held across the cricket-playing nations. Many former and current international cricketers have voiced their concerns surrounding the same. And a fast bowler can get succumb to injuries if he plays all the formats without rest, McGrath urged Bumrah to take an off-season, which will help him to rejuvenate, recover, and help him get back his strength.
“With the current international schedule and the IPL, there is no off-season anymore for a fast bowler, especially for someone like Jasprit, who needs an off-season to pull his strength back in,” McGrath said on the sidelines of MRF Pace Foundation.
“It’s getting harder to play all three formats. That is something Jasprit will have to think about moving forward,” McGrath added. He believes Bumrah needs to prolong his career because he has a lot more to offer through his bowling.
Jasprit Bumrah to captain India in Ireland series
Bumrah last played for India back in September last year, in a T20I against Australia. His back stress fracture meant that India couldn’t avail his services during the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
He also missed playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bumrah then underwent surgery on his back in March this year in New Zealand, and since then he has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Bumrah is all set to return to competitive cricket when he will lead India during a three-match T20I series against Ireland, starting August 18. This series will be crucial for the MI pacer as his fitness will be tested there.
