Losing the first Test against Bangladesh, New Zealand had to ensure they won the 2nd match to gain points in the World Test Championship. Despite bowling out the hosts for 172, they did not start off their first innings well.
Finishing the first day 55/5, New Zealand had Glenn Mitchell and Darryl Mitchell in the middle. In a tough situation, the two needed to ensure they played the lethal spinners and get a lead, which looked tough. What followed was Phillips playing one of the best innings by a foreign player on Bangladesh’s rank turners. From 55/5, Glenn Philips scored an explosive 87 off 72, which included 9 boundaries and 4 maximums. His efforts got New Zealand a lead of 8 runs, with the team being bowled out for 180. After Bangladesh managed to score 144 in their 2nd innings, the Kiwis needed 139 runs to win.
Despite the low target, the Bangladeshi spinners once again dismantled the top order, with them being 69/6. It once again took a brilliant innings by Glenn Phillips to lead New Zealand to a win. He scored 40 off 48 and all-rounder Mitchell Santner supported him with a vital 35 off 39 to ensure the win. The series ended 1-1, with Phillips being awarded man of the match award for his brilliant innings and the 3 wickets he picked up.

With the series now tied, both teams have received 12 points each. New Zealand will now travel back home for their Home season, where they will host Bangladesh, Pakistan and Australia for limited overs matches. They will then host South Africa and Australia for 2 Tests each. Bangladesh don’t have anything planned after their tour of New Zealand.
