Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday named Kedar Jadhav as David Willey’s replacement in their squad for the remained of IPL 2023. The announcement came a few hours before RCB’s ninth game of the season, against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the announcement through a statement on Monday.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday named Kedar Jadhav as a replacement for David Willey for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Willey, the England all-rounder, played four matches for RCB this season and scalped three wickets,” said BCCI in its statement.

“Jadhav, who made his IPL debut in 2010, has so far played 93 IPL games and has 1196 runs against his name. The right-handed batter, who has previously represented RCB in 17 matches, was brought on board for INR 1 Crore,” the board further stated.

While there was no explanation from BCCI about the reason behind this signing, RCB revealed that Willey was ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a fractured toe and adductor strain. Nevertheless, RCB fans looked pretty happy with this signing as they vouch for Jadhav to solve RCB’s middle-order woes.

lsg vs rcb

While it is to be seen how this new signing affects RCB’s combination and the results, the Faf du Plessis-led team needs to get back to winning ways if they are to remain relevant in the race to the playoffs. RCB have managed four wins in eight games and are in the sixth position in the points table.

They will take on KL Rahul’s LSG on Monday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. It will be a real test for du Plessis and Co. on a relatively tough pitch.
