‘He will be back well before IPL 2023’ – Mike Hesson on Glenn Maxwell’s injury

Glenn Maxwell

Director of cricket operations at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mike Hesson is hopeful of Glenn Maxwell regaining his fitness before next season’s IPL. The Australian cricketer is a vital part of the team as his ability to contribute in all three departments comes second to none.

“There was a lit bit of concern around Glenn Maxwell, heading up to the retention phase with the broken leg but we certainly wishing Glenn a speedy recovery and all the information we have is that he will be back well before the IPL and playing cricket. Having that three-dimensional player in our squad is pretty cool in terms of balance,” said Mike Hesson on RCB’s YouTube channel.

Maxwell broke his leg a couple of days ago at a birthday party and will be out of action for at least three months. He had a decent time in the recently concluded showpiece event in Australia, where he smashed 118 runs in four innings at an average of 39.33 and an astonishing strike-rate of 161.64.

Aakash Chopra sheds light on RCB squad

RCB retained all their big guns for IPL 2023 and will head into the auction with a relatively lower budget than other franchises. On this, renowned commentator Aakash Chopra feels that they have a good unit and don’t need to run behind too many players. However, he stated that the Reds will be required to add a fast bowler.

“RCB don’t have much money but the team is looking good. They have ₹8.75 crore only. They let go of Jason Behrendoff. They have left Sherfane Rutherford and other than that, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia and Aneeshwar Gautam. They didn’t leave any major players, so not much money was made available. They don’t need much, let’s be fair. They would need a fast bowler because they will play a lot of cricket in Chinnaswamy,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

The Bengaluru-based franchise will return to their home ground, Chinnaswamy Stadium next season. Reportedly, former players AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle are likely to be given positions in the group. It will be interesting to see what more is in the store for the fans of RCB.
