Gujarat Titans (GT) received a huge blow because Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the entire 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami has been instrumental in GT’s campaign since their maiden appearance in the 2022 season.
Though the franchise is yet to make an official announcement, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told news agency PTI about Shami’s non-participation in the upcoming league. The 33-year-old will undergo surgery on his left ankle.

Despite the injury, the veteran pacer played in the 2023 ODI World Cup, with the final being the last time he featured in international cricket. He has not yet played any competitive cricket since November 19’s final between India and Australia. Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup with 24 wickets despite missing a couple of matches.
During GT’s maiden season in 2022, Shami played 16 matches, scalping 20 wickets. In the next season, he picked up 28 wickets from 17 matches, winning the Purple Cap. Both times, GT reached the finals. He played an important role in GT’s IPL triumph in 2022.
