India nods for visa to 34 Pak players, officials of blind cricket team

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given the nod for the issuance of visas to 34 Pakistan players and officials of the blind cricket team for the World Cup for the Blind in India. Earlier in the day, Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) claimed that their players were denied the visa by the Ministry of External Affairs.
“This unfortunate incident has left the Pakistan blind cricket team in the lurch. It was highly likely that Pakistan and India would have locked horns in the final of the ongoing World Cup and considering the current form of the Green Shirts, Pakistan had a high chance to win the World Cup,” PBCC said in a statement. Notably, Pakistan finished second in the last World Cup for the Blind. In 2018, India defeated Pakistan by two wickets in the final to secure their 2nd Blind Cricket World Cup.
During an interaction with ESPNCricinfo, Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI) President Mahantesh GK was asked about the situation. He said: “I heard from our colleagues from Pakistan that they couldn’t get the visas; they had received this afternoon a call from the Indian High Commission saying that they wouldn’t be able to process the visas.”
