In the first match of Road Safety World Series, India legends thrash South Africa Legends by 61 runs on September 10 at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur.
Fans saw yesteryear legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Jondy Rhodes, Yuvraj Singh on the field again and certainly it was a nostalgic moment for them as well as gave the fans goosebumps.
Talking about the match, India legends captain Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and opted to bat first. Sachin walked out with opener Naman Ojha. South Africa got their first breakthrough when they dismissed Tendulkar for 16 runs off 15 balls after the powerplay. Suresh Raina and Staurt Binny then stitched a 64-run stand between them. Stuart Binny’s quick 82 runs off 42 balls helped India Legends finish the match with a massive 217/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
When South Africa Legends were chasing, they got off to a promising start with a 43-run opening stand before Rahul Sharma and Naman Ojha helped in collapsing the top-order. South Africa captain Jonty Rhodes stood like a lone warrior with his unbeaten 27-ball 38 but failed to get support of the other players. Sharma’s three-fer helped India restrict South Africa legends to just 156 runs for nine.
But those who watch the TV and at the stadium, something that gave them a mesmerizing moment to watch was India Legends captain Sachin Tendulkar’s vintage over-the-top-shot that gave them a ‘1996’ vibe.
Irpath Pathan displayed his ability to swing the new and old ball and threw the perfect length ball on middle stumps as the batter Eddie Leie looked to attack the delivery in the 18th over, but the ball swung past the bat and hit the leg stumps. Leie walked back to the pavillion for a three-ball duck. Pathan’s figures read 1/29.
In India Legends’ next fixture, they’ll lock horns against West Indies legends on September 14 at the same venue.
