WATCH: Indian women’s cricket team leave for Commonwealth Games 2022; receive warm send-offs

The Indian women’s cricket team has boarded the flight from Bengaluru on Sunday, July 24 to take part in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the UK. People gathered around the airport to send them off with loud cheers and applause.
The official Twitter handle of the Sports Authority of India, SAI shared the video with the caption:
“Indian Women’s Cricket Team off to Birmingham for Commonwealth Games 2022. Take a look as India sends them off with lots of support & love at Bengaluru Airport. Come on India, let’s bleed blue #Cheer4India”.

This is for the first time that women’s cricket will be a part of the CWG. Several experts have said that this could become a game changer in the women’s sport.
India is included in Group A along with Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados. The Women in Blue defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 and recieved the green ticket to Edgbaston, which will host the sport.
Harmanpreet Kaur-led will also kick start their campaign on July 29 against Australia and they will have to secure atleast two points to enter the knockouts.

“We all would like to meet PV Sindhu and Neeraj Chopra”- Coach Ramesh Powar
Women team’s head coach Ramesh Powar has also expressed his wish to make the team meet two-time Olympic medallists PV Sindhu and Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, if they find the time at the Games village.
“Quite honestly, if there is an opportunity, we all would like to meet PV Sindhu and Neeraj Chopra. Both have set the bat high, I would love to go into their minds. I am curious about their preparation, and the way they handle the pressure of the expectations of billion people, it is commendable. We as a group would like to exchange some notes with these two top-class athletes,” said Powar before leaving for Birmingham.
