The Indian Premier League (IPL )2023 is likely to start from the last week of March in 2023. Ahead of the tournament, a mini auction will be held in Bengaluru on December 16. IPL 2023 is also set to mark the return of home and away format after three years. Last time, it was played in this format was in 2019 ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic.
UAE hosted the whole tournament in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2021, half of the match was played in India and the second half was played in UAE again. In 2022, only most of the matches were played Maharashtra across four venues.
Last year’s was a mega auction but this year, it will be a mini auction. The salary at the IPL 2022 auction was Rs 90 crore, but this year, it is likely to be increased to 95 crores as per TOI’s report.
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home-and-away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” BCCI’s outgoing President Saurav Ganguly stated on September 22.
Gujarat Titans won IPL 2022
In IPL 2022, 10 teams participated for the first time. In that season, IPL’s most successful teams- Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings- ended up at the bottom of the points table.
The new entrants in that season were the Gujarat Titans and KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants. Gujarat Titans won the match in their inaugural appearance. Hardik Pandya returned in style after injuries to lead the team and in the final; they defeated Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
