T20 World Cup 2022: Top 10 funny memes as Namibia thrash Sri Lanka in season opener by 55 runs

The first match of the T20 World Cup left the cricket fraternity in shock. The underdog Namibia pulled off an astounding win against the Aisa Cup 2022 champions Sri Lanka by 55 runs in the first round of Group A. Lankans were given a 164-run target, but they got all out at just 108 runs.

Now excited cricket fans have come up with hilarious memes after mocking Sri Lanka’s Aisa Cup 2022 victory as mere luck. Some said Sri Lanka did this intentionally because they wanted to get into Group B after the defeat.

Sri Lanka is an unpredictable country. They won the Aisa Cup 2022, beating top giants like India and Pakistan. The same Dasun Shanaka’s team faced an embarrassing defeat against “minnows” Namibia. Memes range from Akshay Kumar’s movie scenes, Ranbir Singh’s 83, to Gangs of Wasseypur’s famous “underground” scene.

Jan Frylinck was the star of the match. First, with the bat, he scored 44 runs off 28 balls and scalped two crucial wickets of Dhananjaya de Silva and Shanaka. Johannes Jonathan Smit‘s unbeaten cameo of 31 runs off 16 took Namibia’s score to a respectable 163/7. 

From Sri Lankan innings, Shanaka scored the most runs (29), followed by Bhanuka Rajapaksa‘s 20. Others failed to reach the 20-run mark.

“Incredible journey; last year was a special experience for us. We’ve started a great win, but a lot of work to do throughout this tournament still. It’s been a historic day for us. The opening day has been quite special, but we want to kick on from here and qualify for the Super 12 stage,” said Namibia skipper Erasmus.
