IPL window extended: ICC’s rough draft dedicates two and half month IPL
Franchise leagues
The next Futures Tours and Programme (FTP) of the ICC, which will begin in 2024, is likely to dedicate two and a half-month exclusive window for the Indian Premier League (IPL). No international cricket matches will be planned during that time. IPL has window from the final week of March to the first week of June, but now, reports are claiming the time will get extended. The final draft is expected to be presented on July 25 and 26 in Birmingham.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah had once floated the idea of an extended two and half-months IPL in June. This will now come true. He had said: ” Let me inform you that from the next ICC FTP calender, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC,” Shas had told PTI back then.
The FTP draft for 2023-27 marks the end of March through the beginning of June as IPL window. Also, a window has been given to The Hundred and Big Bash. But the time frame is considerably shorter than IPL window. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to show concern because their players are banned from IPL due to cross-border tension. PCB Chairman Ramiz Raza is unlikely to get support from other members.
“The problem with Ramiz is that he has to say certain things to his country’s media and he does that which is fair. But the trend of his performance at ICC meetings tells a different story. He never puts in a strong protests. Plus he is a thorough gentleman and he knows that this is happening. The boards want it and the players want it,” said an ICC senior board member.
