In the past few days, IPL fans received the shock of their lives when they found out Gujarat Titans (GT) Captain Hardik Pandya was being traded. The all-rounder was set to join his old IPL team, Mumbai Indians (MI), in an all cash trade, with GT receiving over Rs. 15 crore. After reports from many credible sources confirmed the trade, Irfan Pathan posted a very cryptic tweet, which many fans thought could be related to the Rs. 15 crore trade.

In the afternoon of 26th November, the former India all-rounder posted a tweet where he spoke about the “real characteristic.” He claimed the real characteristic has always been “use and throw.” Many fans believe this tweet was related to Pandya’s move away from the Titans.

Hardik Pandya was released from Mumbai Indians in 2022 as he wasn’t one of the 3 Indian players retained. He was picked up for Rs. 15 crore by Gujarat Titans, one of the newest additions to the IPL. He captained the side to their first IPL title in their first attempt, but lost in the 2023 IPL Finals to Chennai Super Kings.

When Irfan Pathan posted the tweet, many netizens theorized it was about Hardik Pandya’s move away from the Gujarat-based franchise. Many fans called the 30-year-old all-rounder selfish, saying Pandya used GT. They also said MI had lured Pandya. Many were still confused on who the tweet was aimed at.

Along with Pandya, there are reports of another big money trade in the IPL. Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder who was purchased by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 17.5 Crore, was set to go to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Reports from ESPNcricinfo and Cricbuzz state that this move was done so that MI could increase their purse in the 2024 IPL Auctions.
