“It should be made mandatory for IPL franchises to have women’s team”- Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi

Women’s IPL is what Indian cricket fans want. It’s been a hot topic among the fans and experts. It has been promised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that a women’s IPL is likely to be held from next year. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that women’s IPL will be given priority to make it happen from 2023.
Meanwhile, former IPL chairman Lalit Modi gave his opinion on women’s IPL and said:
“I didn’t see much of IPL women’s games this year (Women’s T20 Challenge), but I think one of the biggest things they should do is make it mandatory for an IPL franchise to have a women’s team,” Lalit Modi told NDTV.
“If an IPL franchise owner is able to have a women’s team, you’ll see the bench strength in Indian women’s cricket go up. You’ll see investment in women’s cricket by owners who are already making good money now. Amazing step. It’s a big boost to the women’s game and I am really glad,” Modi added.
IPL media rights sold at a high price
Recently, the concluded media rights e-auction revealed an astonishing price. IPL has become second most per-view match after National Football League (NFL) and also more expensive that English Premier League. An earlier edition of Women’s T20 challenge was played that had a total of four matches with three teams which was held at the business end of Men’s IPL 2022. Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas beat Velocity by four runs at the MCA Stadium in Pune to win their third title.
Currently, the Indian women’s team is to play a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, after three ODIs against the same country. The tour will start on June 23.
