Jasprit Bumrah starts his rehabilitation at NCA, Shreyas Iyer to undergo surgery next week

India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah successfully underwent surgery on his lower back in New Zealand last month and the star pacer will now begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who has been down and out with a back injury, will undergo surgery next week.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement on Saturday, providing an update on these two star players. Both Bumrah and Iyer have been facing issues with their lower back for a while. While the star pacer has been out of action since September last year, Iyer missed the fourth Border Gavaskar Test and matches beyond.

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Mr Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday,” said BCCI in its release.

“Mr Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week. He will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation,” it added.

Along with Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar will also undergo surgery. The Madhya Pradesh batter was ruled out of IPL 2023 with a heel injury. Now, he will be treated for the same in the United Kingdom. The Indian cricket board will pay for both surgeries.

“The BCCI will send Patidar for surgery although he is not a centrally contracted player. He is one of the targeted players and we will ensure he gets the best treatment,” a BCCI official was quoted saying by Cricbuzz.
