Virat Kohli takes indirect dig at Simon Doull and Harsha Bhogle for criticizing him

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, Virat Kohli looked in no mood to hold back while responding to criticism around his low strike rate in T20s. As Simon Doull had criticized Kohli for slowing down “for his personal milestone” during RCB’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kohli was asked about the same and the RCB batter was quick to address the criticism.

Kohli said that he prefers to play according to the demand of the situation and if required he can up the ante at any time. The former RCB skipper also talked about the importance of anchors in T20s.

“Yeah for sure (important anchor role). I completely agree with that, There are many people who because they have not been in that situation themselves, they look at the game differently. Suddenly when the power play is done, they will be like ‘oh, they have started rotating the strike,” said Kohli during an interview with Robin Uthappa on JioCinema.

“I’m not thinking about strike rate. Oh my strike rate must be 160 plus or anything. I play T20 cricket for according to the situation. If situation demands I can play 230 strike rate and I can do this any day. I always play for my team & not for myself,” he added.

What had Harsha Bhogle said?

While Doull had criticized Kohli on air, the Voice of Cricket, Harsha Bhogle had talked about Kohli’s innings after RCB’s defeat against LSG. The commentator had pointed out that Kohli wasting balls resulted in a lower total for RCB.

“This game confirms everything we have been talking about strike rates. Kohli 61(44), eventual SR of 139 but got 16(15) at the end. Du Plessis 79(46) eventual SR of 172 but was 33(30). Those balls don’t come back. And #RCB were short in the end. It is not about the eventual SR,” Bhogle had tweeted.
