Since Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach in 2021, India have had a string of disappointing performances throughout competitions such as the 2022 Asia Cup, where India didn’t make it past the super 4 round. This further continued in the 2022 T20I World Cup where India lost by 10 wickets in the semifinals against England. This was continued with ODI series losses to Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia and a T20I series loss to West Indies. Before that, India didn’t win the ODI or Test series in their tour of South Africa in 2021/22 and they lost the rescheduled Test Match in England, drawing the Test series 2-2.

In the ODI Series against West Indies, Dravid had experimented with the batting line up throughout the series, which brought up a lot of criticism by fans and pundits. Fans were further angered when Dravid said he was not worried for the upcoming ODI World Cup after losing the T20I series.

Plenty of ex-players have said that Dravid needs to change his coaching methods, like Parthiv Patel. Ex-India player Venkatesh Prasad said that for a long time India has been a mediocre limited overs side and deserved to lose against the West Indies. Plenty have defended him as they believe that he is playing without important players, like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah.
