Jaydev Unadkat set to miss first Test match against Bangladesh

Jaydev Unadkat receives Test call-up after 12 years to replace Mohammed Shami for Bangladesh series
Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat is all set to miss the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, starting on December 14 (Wednesday) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. He is yet to receive his visa papers, hence, still stuck in his home in Rajkot, India.
Normally, the BCCI logistics department organizes the visas of the players to avoid any delays or issues. However, no pre-booking was made for the 31-year-old pacer, who came in as a surprise selection, although his name was in the minds of the selection committee.
The national team call-up came after Jaydev Unadkat‘s consistent and remarkable performances in the domestic circuit. The left-arm pacer will be representing his country in whites after a long gap of 12 years. He last appeared in Tests for India back in December 2010.

No place for Jaydev Unadkat in the XI, says Dinesh Karthik

Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik believes Jaydev Unadkat will not find a place in the XI in the Test series. He stated that the presence of the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur will make his case difficult. He also said that the management is likely to move on from him once Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are available.
“I think Unadkat might not play this series, to be very honest. There is Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. There is a good chance he might not end up playing this series, but I think that is okay. The fact that he was rewarded, he has been given those whites to represent India, be part of the team, that matters the most. He might not even find a place in the team for the Australia series, with Bumrah or Shami coming in, we might move on,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

The exclusion of Unadkat from the first Test match will open doors for the likes of Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav and Saurabh Kumar. The series will be crucial from India’s point of view as they still have a chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final.
