Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal recounted the fiery fight he had with India pacer Ishant Sharma during a T20I series between India and Pakistan in 2012 in Bengaluru. Akmal revealed that Ishant had provoked him by using an abusive word and claimed that had not Suresh Raina and former India skipper MS Dhoni interfered, it would have worsened the situation.
Needless to repeat, India and Pakistan’s matches are confined to just Asia Cup and ICC tournaments. They no more play the bilateral series due to the strained political relationship between the two countries.
The fight started when Akmal was dismissed by Ishant but it was a no-ball. Akmal shed light on the fight and said Ishant used one bad word and in return, he used quite a few abusive words to give the Indian paceman a befitting reply.
“Ishant abused me. He said one bad word, and in return, he received 20,” Akmal said during a podcast with Roha Nadym for Cricwick.

Kamran Akmal thanked MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina for sorting out the matter
Akmal added that he felt the fight was quite serious and feared he could have been banned for two matches. He thanked Dhoni and Raina for their interference which allayed the fight. “It turned out to be serious. But thankfully, Dhoni, the captain cool, then Raina also interfered,” Akmal added.
After the match, Akmal was fined five percent of his match fees, while Ishant had to appear for a hearing. Both the cricketers were found guilty of Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct. After observing the footage of the incident, it was clear that Ishant was the one who started the altercation. For this, he was fined 15 percent of his match fees.
