Suryakumar Yadav, known for his explosive shots in T20Is, is yet to learn the ODI format. There was quite a buzz surrounding him in ODIs, but suddenly the cricket fraternity started slamming him when he registered three golden ducks on the trot. He became the first Indian batter to fall for three consecutive golden ducks in ODIs.

After his failure, Twitter fans had gone into a frenzy with their support for Sanju Samson, who gets fewer chances despite his decent performances. But the legendary Kapil Dev thinks if the management and captain are backing Suryakumar, then they should give him more chances. But Dev also thinks the management’s decision of sending Suryakumar to bat at No.7 was a bit weird.

When he was asked about the management’s decision to send Suryakumar to bat down the order, Dev suggested that when the match gets over, it becomes quite easier to discuss things. However, he agreed that sending a player down the batting order sometimes dents his confidence. He further stressed that a player should talk to his captain, coach, and management to send him to bat at the top. “But you can’t say anything in front of the captain,” Dev said.

When he was asked about whether Sanju Samson should have been given the chance instead of Suryakumar, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain backed Suryakumar by asserting that if management wants to give someone a chance, then they should continue to give him full chances.

See if a player has batted excellently, then he gets the chance. Yes, but you should not compare him with Sanju Samson, I don’t like that you talk about him this way and if he plays badly tomorrow, then you’ll discuss about someone else. And if he plays badly and gets out of the team then some people will say he should be given more chances,” he told ABP News.

India head coach Rahul Dravid thinks Suryakumar’s poor form in ODIs is due to his not getting used to the format. And as he has played the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a long time, the T20I format is much easier for him. But fans think India should give opportunities to someone who has already played many games before because of the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Australia won the third ODI by 21 runs and in the process, took home the trophy. Despite a target of 270 runs, plus a good start by the openers, India fumbled badly in the middle overs and later, during the last-10 overs, the batters did not accelerate, which caused pressure that led to India’s defeat.
