Kuldeep Yadav, the India spinner, who seemed a bit forgotten before 2023, has bagged the most wickets for India in 2023. The reason? His coach Sunil Joshi believes when Kuldeep seemed lost after being dropped from the team and after not being given matches to play, no help arrived. Joshi said he was the one who improved Kuldeep to become a better version of himself with the ball.
Kuldeep was once an indispensable part of the Indian setup. But he was heavily hammered by the batters due to which he got dropped from the white-ball setup.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) it was no different. In 2021, he did not get a game for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But in 2022, Delhi Capitals (DC) roped him in, eventually helped him in his resurgence.
“I was part of the selection committee when Kuldeep Yadav got dropped. Who came to the rescue? None of the coaching staff, I was the one who got his delivery stride shorter, front arm better, arm speed better, got him to rip more revolutions on the ball,” Joshi told The Indian Express.
Sunil Joshi told Ravi Shastri that simple methods were enough to help Kuldeep Yadav
Sunil Joshi further said that former India head coach Ravi Shastri asked him what he did with Kuldeep Yadav that has improved his performance a great deal this year. To this, Joshi told Shastri that the simple things were enough to do the job of helping the spinner.
In 2023, Kuldeep picked up 23 wickets in ODIs. He recently played the three-match ODI series in West Indies where he has picked up seven wickets. In the matches he has played so far in 2023, Kuldeep finished with figures like 3/53 (against Sri Lanka), 3/62 against New Zealand, 3/56 against Australia, and 4/46 against West Indies.
