Learn to finish games like your idol MS Dhoni: Former Indian opener advises Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals captain is not having the ideal IPL season he wished for. His performances and the IPL can be summed up as average. In some innings he has started off well, but he hasn’t scored any significant knocks this IPL. After playing seven matches Pant has scored only 188 runs. The highest score in this IPL has been only 44. These are pretty modest numbers in comparison to Pants’ lofty standards.

As we all know Rishabh Pant has been a Dhoni fan since his childhood. He grew up idolising the legendary Indian wicket-keeper batsmen and his style of play. Finishing has always been a feather on Dhoni‘s hat. Ex-Indian opener Virender Sehwag had some words for Rishabh Pant. He said that Rishabh Pant needs to get back to his very best if Delhi wants to make it to the play-offs. And he should definitely up his finishing game like his idol. The Capitals have been struggling continuously because of their inconsistent middle order this season.

Say work on a conversation with Cricbuzz said, “Rishabh Pant will be the key for DC. Even if the openers fire, it is still important for him to score runs in the middle. If he is an MS Dhoni fan, he should learn from him. Pant has the ability to score 20-25 runs in the final over, but for that, he has to be at the crease until the last over.”

The 24-year-old Delhi skipper was recently in the news for breaching the code of conduct of an IPL game versus the Rajasthan Royals. Pant had lost his cool when umpire Nitin Menon did not signal a no-ball in the third ball of the final over of the match. He signalled the on field batsmen-Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to step out of the ground as a symbol of protest. Pant was fined his entire match fees post the controversy.

The Delhi Capitals won their match on 28 April vs the Kolkata Knight Riders, Pant would be looking to get back to his best and lead his side to the play-offs.
