Kavem Hodge made his Test debut on 17th January against Australia in the Adelaide Oval. While he failed to impress on his Test debut, scoring 12 and 3, he scored his maiden fifty in the 2nd Test at the Gabba. He scored 71 off 194, which was integral for them getting past 300 runs.
In West Indies 2nd innings, he came into bat during a difficult time. The visitors were 86-3 and he had to build an innings just the one in the previous innings to ensure West Indies could build a good target. Again deciding to conserve his wicket, Hodge decided to block and leave all good balls bowled at him, unfortunately one leave ended up being the wrong move for him.
In the 50th over, he was facing off-spinner Nathan Lyon. It was the first over after the drinks and Lyon decided to bowl around the wicket. This move meant he was aiming for Hodge to edge the ball to short leg and leg slip. First ball went down the leg side, which the batter decided to leave. The next one he bowled outside the leg stump and Hodge decided to leave it. Unfortunately the ball didn’t spin much and it went on to hit him in the box.
Kavem Hodge requests for “bail angle” from TV director
During Australia’s final innings, Justin Greaves had dismissed Marnus Labuschagne in the 11th over. As Cameron Green walked in to bat, the West Indian teams decided to have a small drinks break. While the break was one, a curator walked out to change the bails of one end. Seeing the bail change, Kavem Hodge went up to her and jokingly instructed the TV Director for the best “bail angle” they had.
TV Umpire to Director, we have a review for a bail change. TV Umpire to Director, TV Umpire to Director, we have a review for bail change, give me your best bail angle. Seems like a fair bail (laughs)Hodge said during the match
West Indies have the mammoth task of bowling out Australia on the 4th day of the Test match. They have already taken the wickets of Usman Khawaja and Labuschagne, but have given 60 runs in 90 overs. Australia need just 156 runs, but West Indies need eight wickets to become the 2nd team since 1986 to beat the hosts at the Gabba.
