The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is of the richest boards. The coaches have enough pressure but have equal advantage too. The board pays a large amount to the players as well as the coaches. Below is the list of India’s head coaches and their salaries since 2005. The Men in Blue have got guidance from Indian as well as foreign head coaches.
- Greg Chappell- Rs 1.24 Crore (2005-2007)
Australian Greg Chappel served as India’s head coach from 2005 to 2007 and got a hefty sum of 1.25 crores per year. However, under him, India was eliminated in the group stages of the ODI World Cup in 2007 by Bangladesh and this had brought severe criticism.
2. Gary Kirsten- Rs 2.5 Crore (2007-2011)
Gary Kirsten is considered as the most successful head coach of India because under him, India lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011 after 28 years. The team was also under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. His payment was Rs 2.5 crore per year (101.6$ more than Chappell). Not only this under this South African veteran, India reached No. 1 in 2009 in Tests.
3. Duncan Fletcher- Rs 4.2 Crore (2011-2015)
Under this Zimbabwean, India had won the Champions Trophy in 2013, a 4-0 whitewash over Australia in 2013. He was made the coach from 2011 to 2015. But India started poorly under him when India got whitewashed by both England and Australia.
4. Anil Kumble- Rs 6.25 Crore (2016-2017)
India continued to lead in Tests under ex-India captain Anil Kumble. Under him and captain Virat Kohli, India defeated New Zealand by 3-0, England by 4-0, beat Bangladesh, West Indies. He had a short but successful stint as the head coach and India were unbeatable in 19 Test matches. However, he resigned from the post after a dispute with Kohli.
5. Ravi Shastri- Rs 10 Crore (2017-2021)
Shastri earned Rs 8 crore per annum in 2017-19 but after his renewal of his contract, it was raised to Rs 10 crores. Although, India had poor performance in major ICC events under him, his team had defeated Australia twice at home in Test.
Under the Virat and Shastri’s era, India won the Gabba Test by beating Australia and also reached the finals of the World Test Championships.
6. Rahul Dravid- Rs 10 Crore (2021-2023)
His salary is the highest ever for any India head coach in the history. He is appointed as India head coach in 2021 and is appointed for a period of two years till the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Currently, India is under the guidance of Dravid with the new captain Rohit Sharma.
