Lucknow Super Giants to sport special jersey ahead of final league match against Kolkata Knight Riders
While this gesture from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) might have won the hearts of their fans, the team needs to win their last league game to ensure they seal that playoff berth.
RPSG Group-owned Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be sporting a special jersey during their last league match of IPL 2023, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday. Lucknow players will don a green and maroon jersey, similar to Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohun Bagan Super Giants. The move aims to pay tribute to the century-old football club as RPSG Group recently took over the Kolkata-based club.
Notably, the RPSG Group bought a majority (80 per cent) stake in Mohun Bagan ahead of the 2020-21 season. The football club’s name was also changed a few days back as it was earlier known as ATK Mohun Bagan FC. “Subsequent to the Board meeting held today, the name of the club will be Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) from 1st June 2023,” the club announced.
Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran were present at the jersey-revealing ceremony. Meanwhile, the franchise announced the news on Twitter and fans were quick to react to it. The majority of the fans praised this gesture from the franchise.

LSG eyeing to seal playoff spot!
While this gesture from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) might have won the hearts of their fans, the team needs to win their last league game to ensure they seal that playoff berth. If LSG fail to win their last league game, they would finish with 15 points and will have to depend on other teams’ results for their fate.
LSG defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their last game by 5 runs to keep their playoff hopes alive. Mohsin Khan was the hero for LSG as the left-arm pacer successfully defended 11 runs off the last over.
