Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan took an absolutely sensational catch during his team’s game against Delhi Capitals (DC) to get rid of his counterpart, David Warner. The incident took place in the 11th over of the Delhi Capitals innings. As DC and Warner were going strong, Sam Curran bowled an into-the-pitch delivery. Warner tried to swat it over mid-off eyeing a boundary. However, the DC batter could not time his shot and the ball lobbed up in the air. With no one at mid-off, Dhawan took the onus on himself and completed a sensational catch. The PBKS skipper then backed it with his trademark celebration.

With the help of this Shikhar Dhawan catch, Punjab drew the first blood. But the DC opening pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw had done enough damage till then. The pair added 94 runs for the first wicket. Even after Warner fell, Shaw and Rilee Rossouw continued the onslaught. The pair targeted every PBKS bowler and scored boundaries with ease. Shaw and Rossouw added 54 runs in just 22 balls before Sam Curran struck again to send back Shaw.

Punjab desperate for a win!

While Delhi Capitals stand eliminated from IPL 2023, Shikhar Dhawan’s PBKS are still alive in the competition and need two wins in two games to make it to the last four. Punjab have won six out of twelve games played. After this game against Delhi, they will be facing Rajasthan Royals at the same venue i.e. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.

PBKS need to win both games and by handsome margins to break it into the top four. They face stiff competition from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who are in a similar position but with a better Net Run Rate.
