Marizanne Kapp

Marizanne Kapp, Delhi Capitals’ star all-rounder did her magic again. With the ball right now though (will be interesting to watch if she can produce the same with her too). But as Gujarat Giants reached just a mere 105/9 in their 20 overs, they will need to produce something extraordinary to win this match. Back to Kapp, she completed her fifer on Saturday (March 11) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Gujarat decided to bat first but this decision proved fatal, for they found themselves in a precarious situation after Marizanne Kapp sent their top four batters into packing. One more wicket and Kapp grabbed her five wickets within powerplay. In her four overs, she conceded just 15 runs at an economy of 3.75.

Kapp first dismissed opener Sabbineni Meghana for a duck, then on the second ball of the third over, she got rid of Laura Wolvaardt. On the next ball, she dismissed the dangerous Ashleigh Gardner for a golden duck. Gujarat found themselves without five batters for a mere 28 runs when Kapp dismissed Harleen Deol. Kapp became the only second bowler from Delhi Capitals to complete a five-wicket haul in this inaugural season of Women’s Premier League (WPL). Previously, Capitals’ Tara Norris picked up her fifer.

It was only when Marizanne Kapp completed her full quota of overs that Gujarat Giants started adding runs. Kim Grath from down the batting order started smashing but ended up playing slow but valuable unbeaten 32 runs from 37 balls. Her knock saved the Giants from faltering badly at a time when reaching the three-figure mark looked slim.
