Mashrafe Mortaza slams Virat Kohli and umpire over no-ball controversy

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took a sly jab at Virat Kohli for his asking the umpire for a no-ball during India’s clash against Bangladesh on Wednesday, [November 2] at the Adelaide Oval. The rain-interrupted thriller contest was won by India by five runs.

Bangladeshi fans did not like Kohli’s asking leg square umpire Marais Erasmus for a no-ball on the last ball of the 16th over off Hasan Mahmud. Even Mortaza seemed upset with Kohli’s involvement. He took to Twitter and asked, “Two captains, same opponent, same umpire, same tournament, same story????????????????????????

For the unversed, Kohli asked for no-ball because it was the second bouncer of the 16th over. He showed his game awareness and asked immediately the same. But Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan made his way from the covers to discuss the matter with Erasmus and Kohli.

This isn’t the first time Kohli questioned the umpire for a no-ball. Against Pakistan, during Mohammad Nawaz’s delivery, the umpire gave a no-ball as it was above the waist of Kohli. It was controversial and triggered a debate on social media.

In this tournament, Virat Kohli achieved a milestone when he surpassed Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene to become the highest scorer in the T20 World Cups history. But he is also surrounded by controversies. Apart from the above-mentioned no-ball incident, Bangladeshi cricketers accused him of “fake fielding”.

Following Bangladesh’s five-run loss to India, Nurul Hasan accused Kohli of “fake fielding” which could have resulted in five penalty runs for Bangladesh. “We all saw that it was a wet ground,” Nurul said. “Eventually, when we talk about these things, there was also a fake throw. It could have been a five-run penalty. That also could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn’t materialize,” he added.

This happened in the seventh over off Axar Patel, when Litton Das whipped the tall toward the deep off-side. Kohli, at point, feigned a shy, which wasn’t noticed by the umpires. Cricket’s Law 41.5, pertaining to unfair play, prohbits the “deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of the batter“.
