Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have climbed to the top of the points table after clinching five wins from seven matches. One of the reasons behind their impressive season so far in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is their powerful start. Openers Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad on several occasions have helped the Yellow Army cross 200.

However, former Australia skipper Matthew Hayden believes, CSK openers weren’t always performing consistently like they are doing right now. He praised senior batsman Conway for turning into an aggressor and taking the leadership role in batting.

Initially I was worried about Devon Conway as he was taking some time in the Powerplay while Ruturaj Gaikwad was playing the aggressor. But in the last few games, Conway has shifted gears,” Hayden said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.

Hayden then talked about the inconsistency from the CSK openers at the start of the tournament but now runs keep coming from both the openers on a consistent basis. “At the start of the season, the opening partnership for CSK was going hot and cold but now there’s constancy. Good to see that Conway, being a senior player, taking the leadership role,” he added.
