MI in 2023
Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) campaign at the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end after they were knocked out by the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 2. Rohit Sharma and Co. ended up in the fourth spot on the points table in the league stage with eight wins from 14 matches.
The five-time champions struggled during the first half of the tournament. But owing to their remarkable batting performance, they were able to leap to the top four when most of the fans had written them off. But as the 2023 season came to an end, the franchise’s focus will now shift towards making significant changes to their squad. They will want to have a stronger bowling attack in the next season.
This year, they were without the services of Jasprit Bumrah who underwent surgery due to his back stress fracture. Bumrah was expected to form a lethal combination with England’s Jofra Archer but that hope got shattered. While Bumrah did not start, Archer too left midway citing injury trouble. Nevertheless, MI will enter next year’s IPL with a much stronger side and for this, they will make some changes to their squad. In this article, check which players MI will be looking to get rid of ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

Here are 4 Players MI should release before IPL 2024 auction
4. Hrithik Shokeen
Hrithik Shokeen did not live up to the expectation in IPL 2023. He got a place in the squad this year owing to his performance in 2022 where in five matches, he scalped two wickets and scored 25 runs. However, this year, all the 22-year-old could manage were three wickets and 23 runs in eight matches. Hence, the MI management will look to free up some purse amount and release Hrithik.
3. Duan Jansen
The South African all-rounder, Duan Jansen, was one of the net bowlers for MI in IPL 2022. And he also played a crucial role in his team St Kitts & Nevis’s successful campaign in the inaugural 6IXTY tournament in 2022. He made his IPL debut in 2023 but ended up playing just one match for MI. In that lone match, he conceded 53 runs with one wicket in his four overs.
2. Arshad Khan
Arshad Khan caught the eyes of MI in the IPL 2022 mega auction where he was picked for his base price of INR 20 lakh but injury ruled him out of the tournament. MI had hoped this 25-year-old uncapped player would perform excellently, in order to fill the Jasprit Bumrah-sized hole while heading into IPL 2023. But he could bag five wickets in six matches at an economy of 13.41.
1. Chris Jordan
Chris Jordan, who set his base price of INR 2 crore, went unsold in the 2023 IPL auction. But he came in as a replacement for an injured Jofra Archer but performance-wise, he faltered. Though he was considered a death-over specialist, in six matches, the Englishman took just three wickets and conceded 237 runs at an economy of 10.77.
