Australia star Mitchell Marsh was not happy over the scheduling of the five-match T20I series with India just a couple of days after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup. After playing the final of the tournament, the two sides again locked horns four days afterwards.
Marsh is not a part of the squad for the T20I series. He feels the players who stayed back for the T20I series have the right to celebrate the victories and be with their families. Australia won their sixth World Cup title by beating India by six wickets in Ahmedabad on November 19.
It was pretty outrageous for the guys that had to stay behind. It's a fine line because we've got to respect the fact we're playing for Australia, and it's a series against India which is always huge.Marsh said on SEN Radio.
He added:
But there's also the human side to it. The boys have just won a World Cup and probably deserve to celebrate for a while and get home to their families.
Notably, around seven members from the 2023 ODI World Cup winning squad stayed back in India for the T20I series. Also, six members flew back home and Travis Head, who slammed his century in the final, stayed back for the last two matches of the series. It’s worth noting that Australia lost the series 1-3.
Mitchell Marsh hopes he and Cameron Green can play Tests together
Mitchell Marsh is currently enjoying his break after the World Cup where he made 441 runs with two centuries and may return to the squad for the home series against Pakistan starting from December 14, in Perth. Fellow all-rounder Cameron Green‘s injury brought Marsh back to the Test squad again in this year’s Ashes series.
During the Headingley Test, Marsh hit a century and was preferred over Green in the fifth Ashes. Green, however, started preparing to reclaim his spot by playing in the Sheffield Shield.
And though the selectors will get a headache over whom to choose, Marsh told reporters in Perth that he wants to play with Green in the future. Marsh also said he and Green share a close bond on and off the field.
