The talk of the town surrounding MS Dhoni in this 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is that the season can be his last one. But Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Moeen Ali believes 41-year-old Dhoni can play next year also.

On Monday (April 17), Ali, while talking to the ESPNCricinfo, said that Dhoni has been batting impressively in the nets. “He could definitely play again next year. The way he’s playing, I don’t think it’ll be his batting that stops him from playing, even if it’s in two, three years’ time,” Ali said.

Ali then talked about Dhoni’s quickfire knock against Rajasthan Royals in the team’s previous match. Dhoni (32* off 17) and Ravindra Jadeja (25* off 15) nearly snatched the victory from the visitors with their big hits in the death overs. However, Sandeep Sharma kept his cool while bowling to Dhoni, to deny the hosts the win at the Chepauk Stadium by three runs.

I wasn’t surprised at how he played against Rajasthan. I’ve been watching him in the nets, and he’s been batting unbelievably well. It’s just amazing to see from somebody at that age,” Ali added.

Now Yellow Jersey will lock horns with Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) tonight (Monday, April 17) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Dhoni recently scripted history when he became the first captain to lead a side 200 times. In 238 matches, the ‘Captain Cool’ has amassed 5036 runs with the highest being 84*, at a strike rate of 135.78. He has 24 half-centuries to his name.
