Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowling attack during the first ODI between India and Australia at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday (September 22). He dismissed five batters and after the match, he gave a hilarious response to broadcasters’ questions on the weather in Mohali.

Some of the players found it a bit problematic playing in the hot and humid weather in Mohali. Even Shami found it discomforting.

During the inning break, Shami was asked to comment on the weather to which the pacer pulled the broadcasters’ legs. He said that they were sitting in the air conditioning room while he had to work in the heat.

You guys were in the AC, I was out there in the heat. There was not much the fast bowlers were getting out of the wicket so the slower deliveries were a good option to turn to,” Shami told the broadcasters. “The team needed and it’s a good feeling to get wickets when you’re putting in so much effort. It’s good for the team and your own confidence.”

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur will take care of the pace department during the World Cup. Shardul Thakur was picked up ahead of Shami due to his batting. In the recently concluded Asia Cup, Shami played only the match against Bangladesh.

Talking about the present match, Aussie opener Mitchell Starc became the first victim of Shami in the first over. He then got rid of Steve Smith with a stunning inswinger. Later, he humbled Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Short to complete his fifer. In his 10 overs, he conceded 51 runs at an economy rate of 5.10.
