What fears the batters most is getting out in on a duck, or the worst, on a golden duck. The probability of ducks is high in T20I cricket because the batsmen don’t have enough time to get settled.
The list of players with most number of ducks has been topped by Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien with 12 ducks and Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar with 10 ducks. India captain Rohit Sharma has nine ducks in the shortest format, while former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has eight ducks followed by Australia captain Aaron Finch‘s seven ducks.

Top 5 players with most number of DUCKS in T20I cricket
Kevin O’Brien- 12
Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien holds the record of fastest century in the ODI World Cup that he smashed off 50 balls against England in the 2011 edition. But, he also has an unwanted record of most number of ducks in the shortest format of the game.
He debuted in 2006 in ODI against England and for two years he played his first T20I versus Scotland. In 110 T20I matches, he has scored 1973 runs (with a ton and five half-century knocks) at 21.21 and a strike rate of 130.92. The 38-year-old retired from the game in 2022.
Soumya Sarkar- 10
This Bangladeshi batter stands second on the list with 10 ducks in T20I. He has represented his side in 66 T20Is and scored 1,136 runs at an average of 18.03 and a strike rate of 122.15. The 29-year-old debuted in T20I in 2015 against Pakistan and played his last T20I in 2021 versus Australia. He has not a ton but five half-century scores in the shortest format.
Other batters with 10 ducks in T20Is: TM Dilshan, Umar Akmal, and PR Stirling.
Rohit Sharma- 9
The 35-year-old stands top on the list of most number of runs in T20I cricket with 3694 runs in 140 matches. But the India captain is also on the list of players with the most number of ducks. He had eight ducks previously and added another one when he got out on zero in a T20I match against South Africa on September 28.
He made his debut in T20I in 2007 and went on to smash four centuries and 28 half-centuries with an impressive strike rate of 141.04.
Other batters with nine ducks in T20Is: LJ Wright, Moeen Ali, Andre Russell, RD Berrington, and MD Shanaka.
Shahid Afridi-8
Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi has played 99 T20Is and amassed a total of 1,416 runs at an impressive strike rate of 150. But at the same time, he got out eight times on ducks in T20Is.
He has debuted in T20Is in 2006 against England and announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018, putting an end to a 21-year long career.
Other batters with eight ducks in T20Is: SL Malinga, RW Chakabva, SJ Myburgh, NLTC Perera, Mushfiqur Rahim.
Aaron Finch-7
Australia T20I skipper Aaron Finch has seven ducks and stands sixth on the list of batters with the most numbers of runs. He has amassed 2915 runs in 95 matches at a strike rate of 145.82. He has two tons and 17 50-run knocks in the shortest format.
He took his retirement from Test and ODIs and only plays T20I. He will lead his side when the Men in Yellow will venture towards defending the T20 World Cup title in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022 which will start on October 16.
Other batters with seven ducks in T20Is: L Siaka, Simi Singh, ADS Fletcher, Kamran Akmal, BN Cooper, CS MacLeod, Jason Roy, and Mohammad Hafeez.
