Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni is widely regarded as of the best wicketkeepers in cricket. Even at the age of 41, he is scripting records. During yesterday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he shattered Quinton de Kock’s record of having the most number of catches in T20 as a wicketkeeper.

Both Dhoni and de Kock were tied at the top spot with 207 catches but yesterday, grabbing SRH’s Aiden Markram‘s catch off Maheesh Theekshana’s delivery took him to the top spot with 208 catches in the shortest format. It wasn’t the only thing Dhoni did from behind the stumps during that match.

After the catch, he produced a brilliant stumping as well as a run-out. The best thing was his run out of Washington Sundar. Dhoni was without his gloves and the moment Sundar went for a run, Dhoni quickly directed a hit at the bullseye. Three different dismissals by a wicketkeeper were seen during yesterday’s match and all, with a knee niggle, which Captain Cool is managing very well.

After the match, Dhoni himself jokingly complained that he should have been given the award of the best catch for his dismissal of Aiden Markram. However, he was far too happy with the team’s performance as they easily won the match by seven wickets while chasing a paltry 135-run target.

Later, CSK coach Stephen Fleming pointed out that Dhoni has done several things behind the stumps that go often unnoticed. And about his knee injury, the former Kiwi captain stated that had Dhoni found it difficult to play, he would have sat out himself.

It’s a natural talent. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his keeping but to be honest, he is an absolute craftsman, an absolute masterclass behind the stumps, and often goes unnoticed with all the things he does,” Fleming said during the post-match conference.
