After lifting the coveted cup for the fifth time, Dhoni pulled star veteran batter Ambati Rayudu’s legs pertaining to the Fairplay award. At the post-match presentation, Dhoni told cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle that with Ambati Rayudu, CSK can never win the Fairplay award.

The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field. But with him on the team, I will never win the Fairplay Award. He always wants to contribute and he has been a fantastic cricketer, I’ve been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours,” Dhoni said.

Notably, Rayudu announced his retirement from all forms of cricket two hours before the scheduled final on Sunday. But he had to wait for nearly three days to retire as the match was played on Reserve Day the next day due to incessant rain. With this win, Rayudu became a six-time IPL champion that saw him also equal Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma‘s record.

This game will be one he will remember, he’s also like me- not someone who uses the phone often. What’s important is that he has had a fantastic career and I hope he enjoys the next phase of his life,” Thala added.
