Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title as they defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the summit clash of IPL 2023. CSK beat the defending champions by five wickets in a rain-curtailed game to lift their fifth title. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs for CSK as the all-rounder nudged Mohit Sharma towards the fine-leg boundary for a four.

Before the ball even reached the boundary, CSK players were up on their feet roaring in delight. Jadeja too went on a spree and was celebrating the win animatedly. Captain MS Dhoni, who is known to show little emotion almost cried while lifting Jadeja in his arms. It was a sea of yellow at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

It has been over 18 hours since Chennai won the trophy but the celebrations are still on and why should they be stopped? After what happened in IPL 2022, this was absolute champion stuff from CSK to pull off a victory against the defending champions at the latter’s den.

While the fans continue to live those magical moments, CSK’s fifth IPL trophy reached the Tirupati Temple for a special pooja. The priests were seen garlanding the trophy.

Fifth in bag, will there be a sixth for MS Dhoni?

CSK have won five IPL titles so far, all under MS Dhoni. There have been two instances when CSK have bounced back strong and won a trophy after finishing second-last on the points table in the previous edition. Nevertheless, CSK have the same number of trophies as their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (who have won it all under Rohit Sharma).

Now, it will be interesting to see if MS Dhoni comes back for one more season and ends his IPL career with six trophies. The CSK captain has said that he will give it a thought as there is ample time before the next season kicks off. But, if Dhoni comes back, fans will want him to sign off with sixth in the bag too.
