Ranji Trophy: Mumbai rewrite 92-year-old world record with mammoth 725-run victory over Uttarakhand

On the final day of the quarterfinal match against Uttarakhand, Mumabi displayed an impressive outing with the ball. They bowled out Uttarakhand on just 69 runs and snatched victory by a massive 725 runs, which is also the highest margin of victory in first-class cricket. The record was held by New South Wales previously, way back in 1929/30 when they defeated Queensland by 685 runs.

With the help of captain Prithvi Shaw‘s 72 and Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s maiden hundred (103) in his second game and a useful innings from Aditya Tare, Mumbai declared the innings on 261/3. Uttarakhand lost their batsman Kamal Singh for a duck before putting a single run on the board, also lost other opener with the first three overs. Among the top-6, only Kunal Chandela could add double-digit score of 21 runs.

In the first innings, Mumbai had set up a target of 647/8 with the help of debutant Suved Parkar’s impressive 252 and Sarfaraz Khan’s 153. They bowled out Uttarakhan on just 114 with Shams Mulani’s five-wicket haul. In the second innings, Prithvi Shaw didn’t enforce a follow-on despite having a 533-run lead. Dhawal Kulkarni, Tansen Kotian, and Shams Mulani bagged three wickets each in the second innings. With this win, they barged into the semi-finals of the 2021-2022 Ranji Trophy.

Also Sarfaraz Khan also scored his seventh hundred-plus score in the first-class cricket. Since the 2019-20 season, Sarfaraz has been in brilliant form and had finished on top of the batting chart in that season. He had scored 928 runs in six matches while in this season, he has already scored 704 runs in four matches, including three centuries.
