Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will don the Women’s Premier League (WPL) jersey when they’ll lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (April 16) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. They will don the jersey to celebrate Education and Sports For All (ESA) Day.
Notably, ESA Day is an initiative started by the Reliance Foundation to promote and motivate girls to take up sports as a profession. As per reports, over 19,000 girls will be attending the match between Mumbai and Kolkata.
“Mumbai Indians have been fantastic creating this initiative and hopefully, it’s going to go out to the rest of the world,” Mark Boucher, the head coach of the Mumbai Indians’ men’s team said in a video uploaded on the franchise’s official Twitter handle.
“The biggest lesson that they will take away from this game as well is that seeing sports at a professional level one day,” Boucher added.

Mumbai Indians registered just one win from three matches they played so far
Mumbai Indians are fumbling this season also as they did in 2022 as they registered just one win from three matches. That lone victory came against Delhi Capitals who are languishing at the bottom of the points table after losing five matches on the trot.
After one win, Mumbai Indians are second from the last on the leaderboard table with – 0. 879 points. Rohit Sharma and Co. will face two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) led by Nitish Rana on Sunday (April 16). KKR is currently fifth on the points table with two wins from four matches. The list is topped by Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals with three victories from the four matches they have played so far.
