“Must be heartening” Ravi Shastri speaks about MS Dhoni’s decision to stay CSK’s captain next season

MS Dhoni on Saturday lifted the spirits of cricketing fans all over the country as he announced that he would definitely continue with CSK in IPL 2023. Dhoni made the announcement after the toss last night as Chennai Super Kings faced the Rajasthan Royals. While CSK lost their final game of the season, fans will be optimistic for next year now that they know Dhoni will be back to lead the team.

Earlier yesterday as well, ESPN Cricinfo announced that Dhoni would continue next year. In an interview, Dhoni said, “It’s a simple reason: it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you. And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be traveling so it will be like a thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues.”

Speaking about Dhoni’s decision to continue in IPL next year, Ravi Shastri said,“There is no question about that. It’s good that they have made the announcement now, it cuts all the speculation, all the drama that goes behind it. He has one of the best leaders the country has ever produced, especially in white-ball cricket. The announcement must be heartening for the CSK fans more than anything else.”

“He is not (any ordinary player). He will be up in the mountains with his regiment. He will take a break for 2-3 months. He will come and play some.” Ravi Shastri also went on to speak about MS Dhoni’s fitness and form saying that the player is better than last year. Shastri called MS Dhoni an ‘unbelievably fit bloke’ and that Dhoni has surprised himself with the way he has played this season.
