Former India batter Virender Sehwag thinks Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is the most balanced team of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). This came as a surprise as he picked the Lucknow-based side over teams like table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) and MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

This season, the competition level is quite high, for each team is fighting hard to advance to the next stage and it is still uncertain which four teams will make it to the playoffs, apart from defending champions GT. MI yesterday thrashed GT, while last year’s runners-up Rajasthan Royals (RR) are having a mixed season.

LSG on the other hand had a great season in their maiden appearance last year as well as in this edition. They ended in the top four on the points table and right now, they are fighting hard to qualify for the playoffs.

Lucknow Super Giants are one of the best and most balanced teams in this tournament. They have done well playing away from home but their performance at home ground in Lucknow hasn’t been up to the mark,” Sehwag said on Star Sports Cricket Live.

Today, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, when everybody had written off LSG, Nicholas Pooran turned his beast mode on to hammer an unbeaten 44 off just 13 balls, with three fours and four maximums at a massive strike rate of 338.46 to guide his team to victory by seven wickets.

This win helped them replace RR from the fourth position. Two more points can help them reach the playoffs for a consecutive time. But despite that, the road to the playoffs may not be that easier for them as their next match is against MI, at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow where they have struggled quite a lot, and at the same time, they will be without their regular skipper KL Rahul who hurt his hamstring during a match and will undergo surgery.
