India played for three consecutive days yet their performance was not lackluster. Their batting seemed to lack something though against Sri Lanka’s 20-year-old Dunith Wellalage who sent five batters to packing. But despite India’s batting failure, Sri Lanka fell in front of Kuldeep Yadav on Tuesday (September 12) at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
After winning the toss India captain Rohit Sharma chose to bat first. And though he scored his half-century (53 off 48), other batters somehow took India to 213. Dunith Wellalage ran through India’s batting lineup by bagging his maiden fifer. Rohit, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and KL Rahul became his victims.
During Sri Lanka’s innings, the two pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj got rid of the top-order batters. The momentum was toward India most of the time but when Dhananjaya de Silva came to bat, Indians found it difficult to dismiss him.
Ravindra Jadeja gave the breakthrough and one by one, the left four wickets fell. Despite Sri Lanka’s defeat, Dunith Wellalage impressed the most. First, he scalped five wickets, then scored an unbeaten 42 runs from 46 balls. But his efforts had gone in vain as he did not get help from his teammates. But for India, Kuldeep Yadav rocked.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Charith Asalanka, Kasun Rajitha, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Matheesha Pathirana. His four-fer quickly wrapped up Sri Lanka’s innings as they fell short of 41 runs after getting bundled out for 172 runs in 41.3 overs.
