Controversial advertisements have become part and parcel of cricket. Cricketers promote these products and at the same time, the cricketing boards of a country or T20 franchises rope these companies as sponsors. But Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and swashbuckling batter Mohammad Rizwan have decided not to promote them.

A report published on Cricket Pakistan says Babar, Rizwan, and other top Pakistani cricketers have decided to include a clause in their contract with the T20 franchises so that they do not have to promote products such as alcohol, surrogate betting apps, adult entertainment, tobacco, and pork items. The reason behind this decision is their “religious, cultural, and personal values“.

And as they won’t promote the products, they will also not receive any money from them. Needless to mention, they will receive financial compensation from contracts with franchises, other sponsorships, etc.

Not just in T20 leagues, some of the players also want to opt out of promoting controversial products while playing for Pakistan. They want to include the clause in their contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well.

Babar Azam, who recently played in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) for the Colombo Strikers, refused to show the logo of a surrogate betting company on his jersey. The franchise respected his decision.

It’s also worth noting that as these players stay firm on their decision, problems could arise during the next edition of the Pakistan Premier League (PSL). The franchise owners will have to sort the things with PCB.
