The three-match ODI series serves as a warm-up match before the all-important 2023 ODI World Cup. Veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has been adjusted into the squad after Axar Patel injured himself during the recently concluded Asia Cup tournament.
The Indian cricket fraternity expected a lot from Ashwin in the first ODI on Friday (September 22) at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. However, his average performance ended up disappointing the fans.
Ashwin bowled 10 overs where he conceded 47 runs with a wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. This was his first wicket after returning to ODI cricket after nearly two years.

Fans react to Ravichandran Ashwin’s average performance
Ravichandran Ashwin last played an ODI back in January 2022 against South Africa. Though he is not a major part of the white-ball squad for India, in Test cricket, he is an indispensable part of the playing XI.

Fans expected a brilliant performance from Ashwin but after his spell, they expressed their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter). Because of the uncertainty of Axar Patel’s availability in the ODI World Cup, Ashwin and Washington Sundar have come into the mix.
In the current ODI match, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took care of the spin department. Kuldeep Yadav and Sundar have been rested.
Meanwhile, Australia posted 276 in 50 overs after a stunning performance from Mohammed Shami who bagged his five-wicket haul. India, if they keep playing without losing regular wickets, will win the match easily to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
