India, led by stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya, lost back-to-back two T20I matches of the five-match T20I series against West Indies. This happened after they were thrashed by the hosts in the second match by two wickets at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday (August 2).

Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first. India openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill did not give a decent start as the latter lost his wicket in the third over itself.

Suryakumar Yadav departed quickly after Gill off run out by Kyle Mayers. Like the first T20I, only Tilak Varma showed the intent to bat longer.

He scored his first T20I fifty (51 runs off 41 balls) and got dismissed by Akeal Hosein. Later, Hardik Pandya contributed 24 runs from 18 balls to take India to 152/7.

For West Indies, Nicholas Pooran shined again, for he scored 67 runs from 40 balls and turned the table. At first, during West Indies’ run chase, India found themselves in a comfortable position because Hardik Pandya dismissed two batters in the first over itself and soon Arshdeep Singh also gave India their third wicket.

But Pooran arrived, only to turn the table. Rovman Powell, and Shimron Hetmyer, and Akeal Hosein scored a few more runs to help the hosts win the match by two wickets. At the same time, India lost consecutive T20I matches in a T20I series for the first time in 7 years.
