A target of 258 wasn’t a cakewalk for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) but despite that, they didn’t surrender easily. They displayed an impressive performance in their run chase against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) but eventually fell short of 56 runs on Friday (April 28) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. That 257-run total by LSG has now become the second-highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

During the run chase, PBKS skipper and opener Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t do much with the bat, nor did the other opener, Prabhsimran Singh. But the young Atharva Taide gave a brilliant start to the innings later, scoring 66 runs from 36 balls with eight fours and two sixes before he became Ravi Bishnoi’s victim of caught and bowled.

Sikandar Raza‘s knock was restricted by Yash Thakur. He scored 36 runs from 22 balls with four boundaries and a six. Liam Livingstone also fumbled here, scoring 23 runs from 14 balls with two fours and a six.

Sam Curran (21 off 11) and Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10) tried to drag PBKS to the total but their scores can tell that their knocks carried less impact and after losing a couple of more wickets, PBKS were restricted to 201 all out.

After this 56-run win, LSG remained second on the points table with five wins from eight matches. On the other hand, Punjab are sixth on the table with four wins from five matches.

LSG will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday (May 1), while Punjab will square off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (April 30).
