The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup. The continental tournament will kick start on Wednesday, August 30 with a match between Pakistan and Nepal. India will begin their campaign by locking horns with Babar Azam and Co. on Saturday (September 2) in Kandy.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) due to injuries will make their return to the team. Rookie batter Tilak Varma, who is yet to make his debut in ODI, has been given the chance.
The bright thing that happened for Team India is the inclusion of tearaway paceman Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was out of competition since September 2022 due to a back stress fracture and its surgery and made his comeback to the national team in the T20I series against Ireland.
Another pacer Prasidh Krishna, who was also sidelined for a long time due to a back stress fracture is added to the squad. Krishna made his ODI debut in 2021 against England and recently made his T20I debut in the series against Ireland.

Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are the two unmissable fast bowlers who cannot be ignored despite Bumrah’s return as the two handled the pace department well in all formats during Bumrah’s absence. Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel complete the all-rounder list.
Kuldeep Yadav has been preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal as wrist spinner. The two finger-spin bowlers are Axar and Jadeja. Sanju Samson has been added to the reserved list.
