“No need to have world class players when….”- A jubilant Maheesh Theekshana takes a dig at BCB director after beating Bangladesh

“World class”, the two words have been used in these days more from Sri Lanka and Bangladeshi cricket team’s end. It started when Sri Lanka captain made a statement of Bangladesh being an easier opponent in comparison to Afghanistan since the former doesn’t have many world class bowlers except for Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan.

“Afghanistan has a world-class bowling attack. We know Fizz (Mustafizur Rahman) is a good bowler. Shakib is a world-class bowler. But apart from them, there is no world-class bowler in the side. So if we compare with Afghanistan, Bangladesh is an easier opponent,” Shanaka had said.

Reacting to his comment, Bangladeshi team director Khaled Mahmud then gave equally ‘savage’ answer by claiming that Bangladesh at least have two world class bowlers but Sri Lanka have none.

“It’s upto Dasun, why he said that or why he thinks we are (easier opponent). Maybe Afghanistan has a better T20 squad, that’s why he said that. He said a lot of other things as well, he said we have only 2 (world-class) bowlers or something. I don’t see any in Sri Lanka, at least Bangladesh have two. That’s very good. We have at least Mustafizur and Shakib, I don’t think they have world -class bowlers like them,” Mahmud said in a pre-match press conference.

This must have sparked more rivalry between the two. And when, in what was a nailbiting match betweeen Sri Lanka and Bangladesh yesterday, the latter had put up 183 and as Sri Lanka lost some quick wickets, it looked Bangladesh will win the match but no. No one had any idea which team will win till the penultimate over. But the last over drama saw the Lankann knocking out Bangladesh from Asia Cup 2022.

Reacting to the match, Maheesh Theekshana took to Twitter and shard a heartwarming message for his team. He wrote : “No need to have world class players, when you have 11 brothers.” He ended the message with a heart emoticon.
